At Royal Docks, we simply adore intellectually challenging brews that beckon one to explore their depths and parse each nuanced sip, but this ain't one of those beers. See, there's thinkin' beer and there's drinkin' beer - and Backyard Crusher is a drinkin' beer. Sure, we could tell you all about the Egyptian black lime, Mediterranean sea-salt and Citra hops that make this tangy golden quencher so easy on the tongue, but that would defeat the purpose. Someone once said that brewing an IPA with fruit was a crime. Well, call the cops. An obscene amount of passionfruit coupled with about an acre of Citra and Simcoe hops produces an IPA loaded with juicy, peachy-passion flavour and aromatics that are simply steaming with tropical hop character.

A classic IPA made with Ohio-grown and malted Pilsner Malt from our friends at West Branch Maltings, a bunch of Simcoe hops from the Pacific Northwest and about a gallon of Georgia-grown peach juice per barrel of beer. Oh, you can never forget that we use what is, in our estimation, the finest brewing ingredient on earth; cool, balanced and ever so prized water from the glacial kame buried valley aquifer 300 ft. below the brewery in Stark County, Ohio. Conceived among the rows at Second Sons' Hopyards & raised in the steamy halls of our brewhouse, the source of Hoptopod IPA's monster hop flavour lurks in the deepest fathoms of the Seven Cs: Ohio-grown Cascade, Columbus, Centennial, Crystal, Celeia, Cluster and Citra hops. Locally sourced malt from West Branch Malts is the base of this brew.

We start with an IPA, then we use skill and magic to ferment it really dry, then we dry hop the hell out of it with highly-sought-after Mosaic hops, then we add a whole lot of hand squeezed and zested Valencia oranges. Get it? Champagne + Oranges = Mimosa + Mosaic = Mimosaic? And did we mention it’s made with a lager yeast? So technically there shouldn’t be an A on the IPA, but since we’re all friends here… Read Less

Since about 2015, the IBU arms race that dominated the IPA style in the 2000s has waned with a sea-change towards low-bitterness "juicy" IPA's and now their ubiquity has born yet another style. In champaign speak, "brut" means extra dry; likewise, brut IPA's are bone-dry, very aromatic, maybe a bit hazy, maybe not, highly effervescent and nearly devoid of hop bitterness. In short, these are truly the champaign of beers. Read Less

Most beers need a bit of age and some polishing before being kicked from the nest. Other beers are born to run; daring, thundering, people-pleasing hop bombs that should be allowed to roam immediately.

Dare IPA is one of those beers; a young, unfiltered, unprocessed, aggressively hopped West-Coast-meets-New-England IPA bursting with floral and citrus flavours and aroma straight from the tanks into the can [to the taps] [to the keg].

6.6% ABV | 45 IBU

Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in that grey twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat. Read Less

Our holiday seasonal is a big, sweet, spiced ale with a pleasant spicy flavour and aroma that is at once present but not overwhelming. The deep copper hue and fluffy white head is perfectly presented garnished with a spring of freshly cut rosemary, which imbues the nose with a fleeting whiff of pine before the richness of the beer reaches your palate.
