Oct 7 LIVE MUSIC - Allen Cruz & The Galaxy Allen Cruz & The Galaxy is returning to the brewery for beer, fun and live music! NO COVER Allen is a singer songwriter from Chicago Illinois, now residing in a small town in Ohio. He is no stranger to the stage, opening for such acts such as Ryan Cabrerra, Alex Goot, and Youtube’s Premier national music tour “The Digitour.” His Youtube music videos are quickly getting noticed as well, being featured as the introduction song to Michael Buckley’s “What the Buck show” and having a total 120,000 views on his Youtube channel in the last year. After releasing an acoustic EP on iTunes he soon enlisted the help if his friends Josh Huddleston, Paul Merendino Jr., and Brian Crace to give his songs a new life and energy. They quickly became a tight knit group naming themselves, “Allen Cruz and The Galaxy” in reference to a popular comic book title. Their music can best be described as Jazzy Pop Rock. Taking influences from Weezer, Fall Out Boy, Michael Buble and Bruno Mars, you can expect a good combination of catchy pop hooks, jive, and lots of energy. Their first album release was on July 5th, 2014 called, “Talk About the Moon.” Although the band performs original music, they also have a wide variety of covers ranging from jazz standards, 80’s pop songs, and modern top 40 hits. Their quirky and fun attitudes translate perfectly on stage, you should always expect dancing, witty banter, tight musicality, and soaring vocals. #RoyalDocksBrewing #RDB #DrinkCantonBeer #MindTheTap #LiveMusic #Music #Live #Band Oct 13 LIVE MUSIC - The Jakobs Ferry Stragglers For the first time in our taproom, we're stoked to host The Jakobs Ferry Stragglers! Strangled Darlings will be returning to Royal Docks Brewing Co. in October for a end of 2017 tour gig! It's always a great time to have them in the taproom as they tour the country. http://www.strangleddarlings.com Jess and George met at party in 2009, with their spontaneous duet of the Prince song, "Pussy Control". Soon after that they formed a band around a principle of originality and ruthless editing of their work. The name of the band draws inspiration from southern author William Faulkner who would tell his writing students that 'sometimes in writing you must strangle your darlings'. The have written and toured as a full band but once they decided to tour the US full time and live in a 20 foot RV, there was only enough extra room for the little dog. Jess is a trained classical violinist but picked-up cello and discovered that she was actually a bass player. George found his degree in English Lit pays better as an indie musician and so learned the mandolin. The music is built on deep sense of rhythm and groove. Mandolin like you’ve rarely ever seen, somewhere between a snare drum and a slalom of notes. The solid body custom cello weaves an intricate counter melody and and percussive groove. The voices and the lyrics are the hidden third member of the band and the story behind the music. The songs work with nontraditional subjects for inspiration. Some song subjects include: the works of great authors (Faulkner, William Blake, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Donald Bartheleme, Anna Ahkmatova) as well as witchcraft in the Civil War, the morality of Somali piracy and the media impact of Neil Armstrong. Strangled darlings have released 2 full length albums and one EP, receiving praise from hometown and national press alike. #RoyalDocksBrewing #RDB #DrinkCantonBeer #MindTheTap #LiveMusic #Music #Live #Band
